How to Add/Edit Fields in JIRA

This article shows how to add and edit fields in JIRA

1- How to add existing JIRA fields to a newly created JIRA project

In this scenario we will add the existing Triage Origin field to a newly created JIRA project

 

  1. Log into JIRA

  2. Click on Settings 

  3. Click on Issues

 

4. From the left-hand menu click on Screens

 

5. Find the project and the screen that you wish to add the field to. In this example we want to add the Triage Origin System field to to the HAN project Incident View/Edit Screen. This means the field will be available when viewing and editing the ticket. You can also add it to the Create Issue Screen if required. 

 

6. Click on Configure

7. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and type n Triage Origin System in the search box and select the entry that shows up. 

 

8.  Click on Add. This will ad the field to the list. You can also move the order of the field by dragging it higher and lower (if required)

 

9. Open an example ticket from the project queue and put it in edit mode. You will see the newly added Triage Origin System field

 

 


2- How to create a new field and add to a JIRA project

In this example we will create a new custom field with a dropdown and attach it to the HAN project

 

  1. Log into JIRA

  2. Click on Settings 

  3. Click on Issues

 

4. Click on Custom Fields

 

5. Click Add custom field (top right-hand side)

 

6. Click on Select List (single choice). Then click on Next.

 

7. Fill out the details on the screen. Click on Add to insert data. When complete click on Create. In this example we have created a new field called RAG Status

 

 

8. Click on Issues

 

9. From the left-hand menu click on Screens

 

10. Find the project and the screen that you wish to add the field to. In this example we want to add the RAG status field to to the HAN project Incident View/Edit Screen. This means the field will be available when viewing and editing the ticket. You can also add it to the Create Issue Screen if required. 

 

11. Click on Configure

14. Open an example ticket from the project queue and put it in edit mode. You will see the newly added RAG field. It will appear on the ticket view screen when data is selected.
